about

Though the experiences of the members of the diaspora are not monolithic in nature, there are a few experiences that are shared. One of which is the motivation to keep moving forward in life. Regardless of the circumstances, Black people in the diaspora are always striving for success and fighting for a better tomorrow.

This song by Afro-soul artist KAR33M featuring Rapper Banggz is a quick insight into what that experience feels like. The impulse to move in the morning, getting to work through mismanaged roads and public infrastructure, dealing with poor political leadership and so much more.

" In this song, I wanted to capture what it feels like to be a working-class youth from my home country Nigeria. The sharpness and danceability of the instrumentation capture the upbeat tempo of the city and how everyone is always striving and making a move towards something. I also wanted to infuse a bit of knowledge about the thoughts that could possibly be going through people's heads and that's where Banggz delivered. This is my Wednesday afternoon traffic jam song." - KAR333M

Verse 1
- Now it's morning, the people are calling
- Now it's morning, the people are yawning
- Some people still dey die, some people still dey cry, dem say the fight wey we wan fight, Nah em go save our life

Verse 2
- I hear on mars, I can breathe a lil better
- Fuck if I know if my country’s gonna let up
- It’s a v6 put in reverse in stormy weather
- And speaking of v, we knee-deep in vendetta
- So. I hate to let her go...
- But lately, it seems to me like her destiny is set in stone but what do I know?
- I’m just a youngin with a round nose
- Searching for hope in a country that defines those searching for dough
- I just hope that I’ll be fine in my regular clothes
- I need a second approach
- I need to get up off my ass and just speak on the shit
- Say something slick. we gon show you what is on a beat.
- We lit

Hook
- So we move
- We wake up and we move
- So we move
- We wake up and we move

Verse 3
- It's time to move in silence
- The leaders lead with violence
- So we dance the dance them no wan see
- It's our time to rise-up

Hook
- So we move
- We wake up and we move
- So we move
- We wake up and we move
